Indeed, computers have been introduced quite rapidly in most of our homes and it is not uncommon to see that children are more familiar with it then their parents. They can be quickly overwhelmed and feel concerned about the number of hours their children spend in front of the Internet or a video game. But what exactly do we call cyberaddiction? According to Kimberly Young, a psychologist who did some studies on the impact of the Internet, one person out of eight in the United States may suffer from Internet addiction. In this interview, Dr. Young gives her opinion on this new form of addiction. She explains how people can be addicted to the Internet and what are the treatments offered in the center she founded a few years ago.

Au début du mois de février, le gouvernement du Québec a autorisé la Société des loteries du Québec à offrir le jeu en ligne, lui permettant ainsi d’exploiter les jeux d’argent et de hasard sur Internet. Cette décision préoccupe les acteurs en santé publique et le sujet sera débattu à l’Assemblée nationale. L’État doit-il réguler les jeux d’argent sur Internet?
