HPV Vaccination: An epidemiologist’s viewpoint
While not faced with an epidemic of cervical cancer like that seen in Africa or Latin America, Canada must still contend with some significant costs related to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections. This is one of the many reasons why Dr. Helen Trottier, an infectious diseases epidemiologist and researcher at the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Center in Montreal, supports the HPV vaccination program proposed by the Canadian government. In this interview, Dr. Trottier provides a brief overview of the benefits, risks and limitations of HPV vaccination.
