Le Réseau québécois de Villes et Villages en santé compte 200 municipalités travaillant chacune à sa façon, à améliorer la qualité de vie de ses citoyens. Au Québec, ce mouvement a vu le jour à Rouyn-Noranda en 1987. L’équipe de Hinnovic a eu la chance de discuter avec l’un de ses principaux instigateurs, le Dr Réal Lacombe. Avec un enthousiasme contagieux, le Dr Lacombe nous rappelle ici les principaux concepts ainsi que les ingrédients essentiels à la réussite de ce mouvement, qui représentent maintenant plus de 70 % de la population québécoise.

While it is known that power wheelchairs can positively impact on well-being, self-esteem, pain, activity and participation, health professionals who evaluate and train patients to use this technology report that it sometimes cannot be provided to individuals with cognitive, visual and motor problems. Over the past few years, technological advancements have allowed the development of wheelchairs that can drive themselves semi-autonomously according to a predetermined path and avoid obstacles.

Alors que, dans des domaines aussi complexes et délicats que la chirurgie cardiaque, le développement technologique a souvent conduit à des interventions de moins en moins invasives, en obstétrique, il a souvent eu l’effet contraire. Analgésie péridurale, surveillance fœtale, déclenchement et accélération du travail et césarienne sont autant d’interventions qui envahissent le corps des femmes, venant dicter le rythme, le déroulement, la norme d’un accouchement.

Alors que les gouvernements et autres bailleurs de fonds se montrent très réceptifs aux innovations technologiques, il semble beaucoup plus difficile de les convaincre de soutenir les innovations sociales. Ces innovations visent à répondre à des besoins sociaux liés aux conditions de vie et de travail, à la santé et à l’éducation, bref au développement des communautés.

J’ai toujours cru que l’angoisse ressentie devant un défi particulier pouvait se transformer en désir, notamment en désir d’apprendre. Or, le 2 octobre 2012, j’ai été bien servie car j’ai découvert qu’échanger avec une cinquantaine de jeunes en cinquième année du secondaire est une source d’apprentissage!

Dans la foulée de la Journée mondiale de la maladie d’Alzheimer (21 septembre), la Société Alzheimer de Montréal organise, en collaboration avec la bibliothèque et le Centre d’informatique Atwater, son premier « Café Alzheimer ». Il s’agit d’une première au Québec, la Nouvelle-Écosse étant la seule autre province du Canada à avoir expérimenté cette formule.
